BlowPro Faux Shampoo

Hi mom’s! Happy Mother’s Day to you all. Here’s a little treat for you today, my review of blowPro’s Faux Dry Shampoo.

Their marketing materials say:

This dry shampoo helps to instantly remove excess oil and buildup without water. For anyone who wants to prolong their blow dry styled hair. Safe for color-treated and processed hair.

Benefits:

  • Instantly removes excess oil.
  • Makes hair appear fuller.
  • Aids in keeping your color from fading.

This was one of the products that came in my FitBlogNYC goodie bag. I tried it the other day and was amused with the results.

It’s a fairly simple product to use:
1.Stare at the mirror in disappoint as you realize, ten minutes before you have to walk out the door, that your hair looks like crap.
2. Part your hair, squeeze the bottle, and out comes this powder.
This is the fun part.
3. Once you are done, they recommend you “brush” your hair with your fingers and voila, no more shiny.
Not sure if my pics did the product justice. It did give my hair more volume and reduced the shine but my hair felt kind of hard after. Definitely not the soft, clean, blow dried feel BUT my hair wasn’t clean or recently blow dried, so I can’t ask for miracles here.
Happy Mother’s Day! Hope you have a beautiful day with your family and spend the day exactly as you wish. I’m off to some quality time with my beautiful mami.
Besos to all.

Everyday I’m Hustlin’

Yesterday I strolled into Dick’s Sporting Goods in White Plains after my Zumba class to purchase a water bottle and I walked out with some new clothing. No water bottle.

I absolutely love this store. The prices are reasonable, especially off the clearance rack, and the clothing is always neatly displayed. I have a serious problem with the disheveled look and I won’t shop at a store that can’t keep things orderly (exception: stores with super sales).

Check out some of my new workout gear:

  • “Everyday I’m Hustlin” shirt – Nike Drifit brand. They also have a “I Work Out” t-shirt.
  • “She’s a Fighter” shirt – From the Under Armour’s Power in Pink collection.
  • Striped shirt and sweater – Reebok.
I wore the Nike T on Saturday night for a Zumba event that I attended. I am sure pics of me will surface on Facebook soon. I’ll be sure to post an update.
UPDATE, that shirt had me FLYING!

For the former Picnik users, I stitched this image together on my phone using the PhotoGrid app.

Have a great Sunday.

Sweaty but not Smelly

Some may turn up their noses in disgust after this post but I think the three products below are essential products for any (read: EVERY) fitness enthusiasts.

Men, I know society makes you believe women are supposed to smell like beautiful flowers everyday but that’s not the case, especially not after a crazy workout. Yes, that hot woman with the killer bod was sweating her butt off this morning to maintain her sick abs.

The truth is that sometimes you have errands to run and other things to do before you can get home and take a shower. The three products below are made to help you maintain a clean look before you make it home:

La Fresh Deodorant – $19.99 for a 48 count box

They are made with tea tree extract, vitamin E and feature a biodegradable cloth!

Ingredients: Water/EAU, SD Alcohol 40-B, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl paraben, Ethyl paraben, Propyl paraben, Butyl paraben, Isobutyl paraben, Triclosan, Benzalkonium Chloride, Fragrance, DL-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract.

Paper Shower “When you need to freshen up and soap and water aren’t available”

This product is sold as a combination wet/dry pack. It’s unscented towelettes have minimal alcohol content and are geared towards the outdoor fitness enthusiasts. The wet cloth cleans you up and the dry cloth dries up the residue.  $7.50 for a six pack.

No Time To Shower Mist

This body mist is intended to help you feel clean in between the workout and the shower. They market the product as something to use after bicycling to work or taking your lunch break at the gym. $18 for an 8 ounce bottle.

And of course, none of these products are intended to replace the shower. ;-)

Casall in the U.S.

I love it when I receive little surprises in the mail. This week, I received my Idea Fitness Journal with a magazine for the Casall Spring/Summer fitness clothing line.

I love fitness wear and if I could wear it EVERY SINGLE DAY, I would. Oh wait, I DO! Except when I have to go into an office, of course.

“Inspired by Scandinavian simplicity, freshness and beauty. Casall has been Europe’s premium fitness and sporting apparel line for 30 years. With very limited availability to the US in the past, we are thrilled to bring Casall stateside – beautiful apparel that inspires you to look, feel, and perform your best.” – Carl-Axel Surtevall, Founder and CEO of Casall Sport.

Check out their website. Their clothing even has a warranty! It’s definitely on the pricey side but I hope to get my hands on some of the items to let you know about the quality.

We’ll talk soon!

Impress Nails

I received a new Shoedazzle order in the mail recently and in the box was a trial set of 24 Impress Nails by Broadway Nails.

I haven’t worn press-on nails since the junior high school “Sally Hansen” days. Remember, the nail glue that resembled boogers!  But the nails were free and I thought it would be a great blog post. So, I decided to give it a try.

The Broadway Nails Impress website and the packaging says:

  • No drying time–The imPRESS Press-On Manicure delivers an instant salon-perfect manicure without the drying time of polish or nail glue.
  • Superior, lasting shine—An indestructible top coat that rivals the best salon gel polish.
  • Easy removal—Gently peel from sides or apply polish remover around the edges, wait 1 minute, then peel off.
  • Lasts up to a week—When applied properly, imPress Press-On Manicure lasts up to a week while keeping nails protected. What polish can say that!

The packaging is really cute and Nicole Scherzinger is the face for the product. It looks like they have different patterns and colors as well.

The color I received didn’t have a name to it but you can check it out below. It was pretty easy to use. The nails come in different sizes and I was able to find 10 that fit my fingers. The best part, NO NEED FOR BOOGER GLUE!

They give you a cleansing wipe to clean your nails. I don’t wear nail polish often so I didn’t have to remove any but you should definitely remove polish from your nails before proceeding. All you have to do is peel off the clear backing and place them on the nails. They make it a point to let you know that you must PRESS FIRMLY. I think its on the packaging a number of times. I pressed firmly and in less than five minutes, I had all the nails on my fingers. A day later, I still have the nails!

Broadway Nails claims they will last a total of seven days. If you want to remove them before then, just rub some nail polish remover on the sides, wait a minute, and they should peel right off.

I AM DEFINITELY IMPRESSED!

You can find the nails at CVS or Walmart and other retailers.

Color Fades

I have been meaning to write this post for weeks now. Over four weeks, I SWEAR. Back in mid January, I raved about my new red highlights. Well, that didn’t last very long. My hair began oxidizing IMMEDIATELY. I failed to realize and to mention to my colorist that I sweat like every day. Sweat, mainly water, also contains minerals, lactate, and urea.

Colored hair oxidizes prematurely when exposed to sweat. Working out everyday means sweating everyday, showering twice a day, and washing your hair EVERYDAY.

Needless to say, my hair color is much lighter than it was.

I kind of like it and might go back to retouch THIS color instead. Any tips on what I can do to avoid my hair color from fading away so quickly?

My First Look At Spring Workout Gear

Spring is in the air and while other women are shopping for wedges, skirts, and spring jewelry, I am on the prowl for new workout apparel. I love taking advantage of outdoor activities and my favorite outfit is always something comfortable. Spring is the time for color and I LOVE COLOR.

Here, in New York, we always get too excited over Spring and forget that it’s still chilly out. Something about seeing the sun for longer hours, the birds chirping and the leaves growing on trees, makes people (including me) think its okay to walk around with less clothing even though the temperature is 60 degrees. I’m sure this mild winter won’t help us out much.

This jacket (24.99 from Target) combines color and warmth to make a perfect Spring outdoor activity jacket.
This Athleta top is perfect for indoor workouts and the occasional warm days. The yellow color is so sunny. $49

I love hoodies. They make me feel warm and protected. I’m also a sucker for graphic tees. This hoodie is colorful, warm, and the phrase on it makes me want to kick some booty. Dick’s Sporting Goods, $34.99.

Cute, no? Lucy Activewear, $19.99

These pants are bright and a great price. Lucy Activewear, $39.99

Similar style to the pants above but longer and warmer. Lucy Activewear, $39

Can you tell I love purple, bright blues, and pink?

My Crappy Bathroom

Currently, my apartment represents my life . . . a little messy but clearing up soon. I hope! For both the bathroom and the life.

I purchased a great apartment three years ago. For the most part, it’s in great condition but one of the areas of the apartment that I hated from the very beginning was the bathroom. The guy who owned the place before I did, never really cared to take care of things and to top it off, not too long after I moved in, we had water in our walls due to a plumbing issue upstairs. Since then, things haven’t been pretty in the bathroom.

I am a busy girl so I covered it up as much as I could with a bathroom cabinet and kept it moving. And it worked, until other areas of the wall started chipping away.

We have finally decided to take control of the situation and fix up the walls. Due to this burst of motivation, our bathroom accessories are EVERYWHERE!

It’s a mess in here and I can’t really do anything about it until the guy is done with our walls. He started last week and is coming back on Monday. I hope this is over with soon because I can’t take it anymore.

The good news is that this will finally allow me to purchase a cute wall cabinet for the bathroom and perhaps even a medicine cabinet!  yay. I am not remodeling the bathroom yet but this fix will be a HUGE improvement and I am excited to decorate.

I went on Pinterest for some inspiration and here are a few items I pinned:

I really want a cabinet that will hide all my crap and the blue accent on this is really cute. Source: icandyhandmade.blogspot.com via Fun. on Pinterest

Simple and clean. About $70 on Amazon. Source: amazon.com via Fun. on Pinterest
If only I can be THIS organized. Source: marthastewart.com via Fun. on Pinterest
I like everything about this! Source: citified.blogspot.com via Fun. on Pinterest

I’m headed over to Home Goods today to check out what they have. I’ll also be stopping by Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and Ikea to check out their items. Any ideas on where I should shop for my storage cabinet or what else I should shop for? I’d love his and hers towel racks too. Monogrammed towels? Ideas anyone?

Oh and for good measure, here’s a cute pic of the kitty.

ArmourBite for Fitness

Have you seen that banner ad on the right of my blog for a coupon code? No? That’s ok. But it’s there for you.

Purchase the ArmourBite Mouthpiece or the Armourbite Mouthguard through mouthwearexperts.com and use the promo code “funfitchic” for a Free Underarmour Case. The case is a definite necessity considering the slobber that’s going to be all over the mouthpiece after you use it. You don’t want to just throw that into your gym bag when you’re done. ewwwwwwwwwww.

If you were already considering purchasing one, why not throw in the case for free? Right.

If you have NO IDEA why a mouthpiece is even necessary . . .that’s ok.

This is what Mouthwear Experts says:

This is what I say:

I gave it a try for Zumba, Running, and Kickboxing. I will say it was MOST useful in my kickboxing class. (I looked ridiculous using it for Zumba and its fun cardio so it wasn’t really necessary) Kickboxing is typically a non-contact class (except for the moments when someone goes too far) but our instructor recommended we get a mouthpiece to help us breathe better. We do a lot of High Intensity Training and it’s easy to get winded quickly. I almost passed out TWICE in one class. No kidding. Why do I return? Because it’s the only workout that makes me feel that way and I am crazy. Anyway, the mouthpiece DOES help your breathing, DOES reduce jaw clenching, and DOES increase power. It’s awkward and not very chic at all BUT in a class where everyone is rocking a mouthpiece – my bright yellow ones are eye-catching and a “fashion statement” lol. The mouthpiece is only $29.95 and you adjust it to your bite at home. Now, if I can just get my butt back to the kickboxing routine . . .

THANK ME LATER.
